We left the Bellagio early and our taxi driver was a man who moved to the USA many years ago, from Yugoslavia. He was very knowledgable about all things political and England too!

We collected our rental car from Hertz and I’m pleased to say that this went very smoothly. For regular followers of the blog, you will recall that the last two rentals did not go according to plan!!

Si said he would not accept a car with more than 40,000 on the clock so when he asked the guy at Hertz what the mileage on the car was and he started to say 39…,  I thought we were in trouble, but the mileage was only 3,900 so we were okay. 😮‍💨

For the motor-heads reading, we have a white Mercedes GLE 350. It is very comfortable, has everything we could need and there are lots of buttons and switches we can push and twiddle! 😂

We have a special USA playlist for the car, so entertained ourselves by singing along to songs by Bruce Springsteen, Killers, Bruno Mars, Black Eyed Peas, Status Quo, Sam Fender, ELO, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Billy Idol and John Denver to name but a few. 🎶

Our drive was scheduled to take about six hours which it did. It’s virtually one long road from Las Vegas to Salt Lake city (SLC). The drive was quite easy, apart from when we reached SLC itself and it was very busy.

We had one time change during the drive and that was quite bizarre because at one point, Si’s watch and phone said 11.00 am and mine both said 12.00 midday. Perhaps my side of the car was in one time zone  and Si’s in another!! 😂 They eventually caught up about thirty minutes later.

As today was a driving day, we don’t have much to report but I did take a few photos along the way.

The temperature at our destination was sunny and 85°, so very comfortable. 🌞

Tonight, we dined at the Olive Garden. It was probably the quickest meal we’ve ever eaten. We were in and out in about 45 minutes! We both had starters, Si, chicken and shrimp soup and I had minestrone. It came with bread rolls. For mains, Si had chicken and shrimp spaghetti and I had a light portion of cheese ravioli. The soup and rolls were ‘bottomless’ so we could have had more if required. As it was, the portions were just about right for the both of us. For drinks, I had a pineapple and coconut Margarita and Si had a non-alcoholic beer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

They have a policy, that those drinking must show their driving licences, even for non-alcoholic beer! This is because of a law that if you are caught drinking and driving in Utah, you are given a new driving licence that says the owner is not to be served alcohol. Sounds like a good idea to me. 👍

Although service was very quick, the food was tasty and the service very good.

Tomorrow we have another long drive, approximately five hours, to Jackson in Wyoming and the Grand Tetons.
